A Cut Tongue, Lip, or Cheek

Although this is a common injury, many people don’t know what to do. Here are the steps you should follow:

  1. Put ice on the injured area to reduce swelling.
  2. Firmly but gently hold sterile gauze or a clean cloth to the injury to reduce bleeding.
  3. If bleeding does not stop with simple pressure or continues longer than 15 minutes, go to the nearest hospital emergency room.

Cold or Canker Sores

Cold sores may result from stress, vitamin or zinc deficiency, or a virus and usually last for 7 – 10 days. Over-the-counter medications can provide temporary pain relief. If the sores persist, call our office.

Broken or Fractured Jaw

Keep your child from moving the jaw and go to the nearest emergency room immediately.
